The Science of Laughter- What Makes us laugh?
Thursday 01 March 2012, 18:30

Science of Laughter

What makes you chuckle? We can all list things that make us laugh but do we know why do it?

Laughing is a reaction which is traditionally considered a visual expression of happiness, or an inward feeling of joy. Scientists are striving to discover ‘what prompts the teeth-revealing curvature of the naso-labial furrows (a smile) and the way neural-path action trigger the involuntary expulsion of air and sound (a laugh)’?

The debate will be hosted by a well known comedian and an expert panel will engage with the audience to explore the basics of laughter, how it works, why we do it, as well as the differences in humour appreciation between men and women.

Following the enlightening and entertaining panel discussion, guests will enjoy three comedic performances by up-and-coming Scottish comic performers demonstrating the three main types of comedy – stand up, sketch and improvisation. See what happens when three skilled and edgy contemporary comedians meet some seriously brainy scientists to find out what makes us laugh and why we do - expect sparks to fly!

Tickets to ‘The Science of Laughter- What Makes us laugh’ evening cost £35 per person. Please contact 0141 420 5005 to book your place.
